Oh, this'll cause a furor, but there are so many large dogs and many people have multiple dogs that the park really is just a very attractive dog toilet. Can't we have one little section cordoned off just for use by humans? I never want to sit on the grass there, knowing what a toilet it is. C'mon, dogs, share a little.

Is it a lack of clean up or just having the dogs around?
If it is the latter issue then I do not sympathize.

My question is where would you like the dogs and their owners go?
Owning a dog is not illegal and clearly New Haven is a city with many people who do not have a yard available. I think it's crazy to target the dogs and their owners. It is a public park and often fellow humans of New Haven also use this park as a toilet (if you haven't seen it, it happens! the big tree near Academy and Greene is a frequent human urination target). I'd much rather sit where a dog peed then where a human did!
Was this an issue before when the dog owners could use the nearby field? Maybe everyone needs to join together to get that field opened back up?!

What ball field? I didn't ask for the WHOLE park, I just asked if the dogs could share. Uh huh. I guess not. Maybe you didn't read the whole thing thru, all my nasty commenters, but I said CAN'T WE HAVE ONE LITTLE SECTION just for PEOPLE.
Your dogs are probably hanging their heads in shame knowing that you were never taught to share. Most of the dogs are fairly well behaved that I see. THEY share. What it is with their people? They probably don't even mind I use a cat picture to disguise my identity. They are much more mellow. Take a lesson, dudes.
Get real, I'm going to go for a run or walk, and it's hot, and I'm going to drag an effing lawn chair? YOU DRAG THE EFFING LAWN CHAIR.
Poor dogs. I feel for you. Your people can be so craaaaazy, they make you look bad. I understand, I'm feral, I seen it all. Kookie the feral Cat.
I ain't even a lady.

Yet another ädministrative"option to ban dogs from our public spaces?
Many of the humans who are the owners of dogs are the individuals who are
trimming the trees, raking up the park debris, picking-up the trash, planting the flowers,
patroling for safety, reporting the broken lamps that need to be replaced and spending
countless hours raising funds through the Wooster Square Association to make capital improvements to the park/community.
If my park use is restricted, I will no longer participate in these activities.

The ball field is the one that the majority of dogs you probably are referring to used to be able to go and lessened the amount of dogs in the park. Alderman Smart closed it to the dogs citing it should be for strictly human use.
You can't easily section off one area of Wooster Square park people would not understand, unless there is a barricade and a sign citing "Humans Only". That was why I first suggested Paul Russo Park because that would be easier to accomplish, but apparently you demand a specific area.
This topic should be closed because she purposely was trying ("Oh, this'll cause a furor") to cause a ruckus within a heavily dog friendly area of the city; She does not have a clear compromise other then the dogs and their people should stay out of her area.

I have no idea where the ballfield is, but if you feel strongly that you want to use it, keep lobbying for it. Usually ballfields are designed to play ball in, and parks are designed to be beautiful and to provide urban respite, you know, city beautiful era, Frederick Law Olmstead, landscape architecture, statues, benches, ornamental trees, Central Park, the Fens in Boston, Prospect Park in Brooklyn, monuments to the people killed in wars. You think the dogs care who was killed in WWII?
The only reason I said "this will cause a furor" was because I suggested earlier that people not have their dogs pee on the kids playscape at the school. I didn't say don't use the rest of the schoolyard, which is much larger. The responses I got were insane, except from mothers who had kids who used the playscape. I'm a health professional. ALL URINE transmits diseases, and besides, it's stinky.
And, what gets me is, I entitled this People Area at Wooster Park. The reverse of what it would be in any civilized city in the world. ONE SMALL SECTION SET ASIDE FOR PEOPLE. No. Every out of control dog owner, and I truly do pity the dogs, thinks the park was built specifically as a dog toilet. The sign wouldn't be "Humans only." Gasp. It would indeed say "No animals in this AREA." MY AREA? I don't have any area.
The people who oppose any restrictions to animals excreting all over everything in the neighborhood seem to be world class bullies. No compromises for them. The world is their toilet.
Ya got any idea of history? Ya know about Neville Chamberlain? Neville Chamberlain was about appeasement. (look it up, I ain't telling you who he was). He said, "Oh, LET Hitler take Poland, as long as he doesn't bother us...." Well, ya ain't dealing with Neville Chamberlain here.
So people who are afraid of being bullied, have your say here. It is NOT closed.

Would people be willing to take their dogs to the Union Street Parkway if there were a dog park there that you could let your dog off of the leash?
